Gutter Fics

Painting   By: Christy and Mandy

Painting Luke's apartment.

Lorelai walked to the diner and saw the "Closed" sign in the window. She frowned and tried to open the door. To her surprise it was unlocked.

"Lorelai?" Luke called from the top of the stairs.

"Yeah?" She said.

"Could you lock the door?"

"You forget or something?"

"No. I knew you'd be here, so I left it unlocked."

"Oh, thanks!" She smiled.

"You're going to help me paint, right?"

"Sure."

"Great! Come on up after you lock the door. There's some fresh coffee here waiting for you."

Lorelai locked the door and headed up the stairs.

After she had gotten her cup of coffee, she started to help Luke pick out a paint color. The radio was on and "I Wanna Be Your Underwear" by Bryan Adams came on. Luke sang along to it and Lorelai stifled a giggle.

"More than anything I swear, I wanna be your underwear!" Luke sang. Lorelai laughed.

"What's so funny?" Luke asked.

"That song is hysterical and you look so adorable singing to it." She grinned.

"Remind me never to sing in front of you again," Luke grumbled.

"Oh, come on. It's cute," she teased.

"Exactly."

She was going to bug him about this for days... "Since when do you sing Bryan Adams, anyway?"

"Will you just pick out a paintbrush already?"

Lorelai picked up a paintbrush and used it as a microphone. "So tell me have you ever really ... really, really ever loved a woman?"

Luke really regretted singing. He should've known he'd never live it down. Thank God she didn't know about the guitar in his closet...

"Luke, how come you didn't become a singer?" Lorelai asked, sincerity on her face. She wasn't teasing him this time.

"Huh?" Luke asked, caught off guard by her question.

"I'm serious, you've got an incredible voice. Honestly."

"Lorelai, can we just pick a color already?"

"I'm not teasing you, I'm being serious. Do you play an instrument too? Sax? Nah... you don't look like the sax kind of guy... Piano...nah...Drums!" She shook her head. "Guitar! Oh My God! You play the guitar!" She squealed. "I bet you even have one in your closet!"

"Lorelai, paint!" Luke scolded.

"Oh my God!" Lorelai couldn't believe it.

"What?"

"You have a guitar, don't you."

"Lorelai..."

"Why did I not know this about you?"

He sighed, knowing that Lorelai Gilmore would never give it up. "Because then we'd be having this conversation."

She was silent for a moment, twirling the paintbrush. The obviously-planning-something silence was making Luke nervous. "I have a proposition."

He eyed her warily. "Uh-huh."

"I help you paint, and then you play the guitar. One song."

"You already said you'd help paint." He gestured to the pile of paint cans in the floor. "It would take me twice as long to do this without help."

Lorelai grinned. "I know."

"Come on, Lukey."

"I asked you not to call me that."

"Lucas."

"That either."

"Lukemeister?"

"Lorelai!" Luke warned.

"Lukey-kins!"

"Paint, Lorelai. We don't have all day to think up nicknames for each other."

"Play me a song when we're done?" She batted her eyelashes at him.

"Lore-"

"Please, Luke? I'll be your best friend."

"You already are." He told her, "And more." He said under his breath.

"What was that?"

"Nothing!"

"Come on, Luke!"

"Can we please get on with this?"

"Luke, please, please, please?" She kept pleading. Good God, did she ever shut up? Luke wondered. "Pretty please with whip cream and cherries on top?"

Luke couldn't take it anymore. He walked over to her, grabbed her arm gently and pulled her into him. He pressed his lips against her fiercly, but passionately. Lorelai dropped the paint brush she was holding. Luckily, it landed in the can and only a few drops splashed on the floor. Her arms went around his waist. One of his hands was in her hair, holding the back of her head. The other arm, around her waist.

When they finally pulled apart in order to breathe, Lorelai was speechless.

"Finally!" Luke muttered.

"Luke, that was... Wow!" Lorelai said.

"Yeah, it was very 'wow'." Luke agreed.

"We should have done that a long time ago."

"Couldn't have said it better myself. Now let's get painting."

"Luke..."

"Alright, alright!" He threw his hands up in the air, "I'll play you a song when we're done. If you don't give me anymore trouble." He teased.

"Yay!"
