Halloween Ball   By: Laura, Piper, Mandy

It's Halloween in Stars Hollow.

Lorelai and Rory enter Luke's and notice Luke and Taylor in another argument.
"You're not putting that up in here, Taylor"

"Oh, Luke, it's just a flyer, what harm will it do"

"To you? More than you think"

"Are you theatening me?"

Lorelai goes over to them

"Whoa, whats with the all the screaming over here? Which one of you is Steven Tyler?" she says

"What?" Taylor responds

"Nevermind"

"He wants to place the stupid Halloween Ball flyers in the window, when he knows I don't like that stuff anywhere near here," Luke tells her.

"Halloween Ball? Cool"

"You are so much help"

"I know. Ohhh, is it a costume party?"

"Yes it is. Oh, it's going to be the social event of the year" Taylor says

"I thought the Labor Day Line Dance Contest was the social even of the year" Lorelai responds

"Well, it was till this"

"Oh, well, tell that to Kirk and his torphy of a cow in a hat"

"This is crazy" Luke states

"Here Taylor, I'll get him to put the flyer up" Lorelai takes the flyer from Taylor and he leaves the diner.

"There's no way I putting that thing up"

"Oh Luke, costume parties are the greatest. You get to dress up and be the one person you always wanted to be. Didn't you ever want to be someone else when you were younger?"

"No"

"Come on Luke, Honestly."

"I have work to do"

"Luke...Luuuuuke"

Luke goes into the back to escape Lorelai's questioning. She follows him.

"Aw, come on. You're no fun." Lorelai says with a pout.
"Okay, you might be oblivious to this fact, but I came back here for a reason!" Luke replies.
"Fine then, don't tell me! I don't want to know!"
"Fine, I won't!"
"Pleeeeeeeease?" she begs desperately. "I must know!"
"Why? What is just so important about my childhood dream?" he asks.
"Nothing. I just want to know why you won't put the flyer up, it's making me upset!" She gives him a long, pleading pout. Luke sighs.
"Lorelai, come on, don't make that face. It's not that bad." Lorelai makes her pout even bigger. "Fine, if you stop following me like a puppy dog, I'll put up the stupid flyer." Lorelai's face immediately lights up.
"Yes! I win! I'll go put it up right now! And don't try any funny business, mister, or I'll get Rory to give you her withering stare." She bounces out the doorway.

Day before the party, Lorelai enters the diner.
"So, Luke, what are you wearing to the costume party?" She said nonchalantly.

Luke stared at her. "You're kidding, right?"

"Me? Kid?"

"Sorry, I forgot who I was talking to there for a minute," Luke replied sarcastically.

"Really though, you should come," she said thoughtfully.

"There is no way you can convince me to go to that damn party."

"Come on, Luke. It would be good for you."

"Good for me? How is that good for me?"

"Well, um, scientific research states that eatting a lot of candy corn is actually good for your heart in the long run"

"Tempting, but no"

"You know Luke, as endearing as the anti-social thing is for you, I really think you should go"

"Yeah, why is that?"

"Come on Luke, what will one night of fun do to you that's so horrible? I know, you're not "Mr. Lets go out and party guy" but maybe this once, you could do this. For me at least. I want to see you enjoy yourself."

"And you think this will be enjoyable for me?"

"If you let it be, I can promise you that"

Luke thinks to himself for a few seconds...

"You're doing that pondering thing again, aren't you?" she said, teasing him.
"How exactly would this be good for you?"
"Well, Rory's going to be out with Lane all night, and Sookie and Jackson are going out too, leaving poor old me with no one to talk to except Miss Patty and Babette and...Taylor. So you have to come and protect me from his evil cardigans!"
"Evil cardigans?" Luke raised his eyebrows.
"Well, he might try and convince me to cut my grass to 1 and a half inches!" she complained. Luke sighed.
"Okay, I'll see what I can do."
"You mean you'll come?" Lorelai asked.
"I mean, I'll see what I can do."
"You'll come!"
"This is going to be like that whole 'you can fix it' scenario again, isn't it?"
"Bye Luke. See you later!" Lorelai walked out of the diner, with Luke smiling after her.

The next day Lorelai goes into the diner and approaches Luke

"So, did you see what you could do, or am I going to have to find some incriminating piece of underwear to get you to go?"

"First of all, I don't have incriminating underwear, second of all, never say that again, and lastly..."

He sighs

"...Yeah, I'll go to the stupid party"

"Oh Luke, that's so great"

"Yeah, whatever"

"No, really, I'm so happy about this. What are you dressing up as, and if you say lumberjack I'm going to throw my empty cup of coffee at you"

"Empty?"

"Yeah. Like i ever waste coffee"

"I don't know what I going as yet, but I have a couple ideas"

"Oh, what?"

"Nah, it's gonna be a surprise"

"Really. Hmm, got something big up your sleave"

"Maybe"

Lorelai looked intrigued.

"Can't you tell me?" she asked.
"Nope. You got me to go to this party-" he was interrupted.
"Which gives me all the more reason to know!"
"-Which means I at least get the element of surprise."
"Hmph." Lorelai grabbed the pot of coffee from Cesar, who was walking by. "I need it more, trust me." she explained.
"You can't possibly be planning on drinking that whole thing!"
"Excuse me?"
"Oh, forgot who I was talking to for a second. Of course you're planning on drinking the entire thing." As to emphasize his point, Lorelai took a sip directly from the pot.
"So what are you wearing?" Luke asked.
"If you're not telling, I'm not telling."
"Fair enough."
"Party pooper." she grinned. "I have to go. I'll see you tonight, in a killer costume I hope!"
Luke smirked. "I guess you'll just have to wait and see."

Finally the night of the party came and Miss Patty's place was decorated for the event. She was a dressed as a dancer from the 1920's. Babette was dressed as a french maid while Morey was in a jail uniform and Taylor was dressed as George Washington. Kirk was dressed as Gladiator...yeah, it's fun to visualize that.
Lorelai came in and Miss Patty approached her

"Lorelai, honey, look at you, you look wonderful"

Lorelai was dressed in a tight black suit as Catwoman.

"Thanks Patty. You look pretty good yourself."

"Oh, this old thing, just had it laying around"

Babette came over to them. "Lorelai, my goodness, i remember when i used to have a body like yours. Those were the days. You look great"

"Um, Thanks Babette"

"I bet you anything if you went out on the town in that, guys would fall over you left and right"

"Yeah, well I'll keep that in mind next time I'm standing on a street corner"

"Okay dear"

Babette walks away.

"So has Luke stop by yet" Lorelai asked Patty

"No, haven't seen yet. I bet you really want him to see you in that little number huh?"

"Patty don't be silly"

"I'm just saying when Luke sees you in that he's going to trip over his shoes"

"Patty stop"

"Okay, Okay"

Just at that moment Luke walked in dressed in a dashing suit. Lorelai had her back to him.

"Oh my my, look what we have here" Patty said

"What?" Lorelai turn around and saw Luke. Her heart almost skipped a beat.

"Wow" she said under her breath.

Luke scanned the party, looking for Lorelai. "Whoa," he said to himself when he finally saw her talking with Patty. He started to make his way over towards her.
"Hey," he said quietly.
"Oh, hey Luke," she replied.
"I'll see you two later," Patty said with a wink and walked away.
"So um, you look great," Lorelai told Luke.
"You do too." he responded.
"I'm so glad you decided to come!" she exclaimed, after a small pause.
"Yeah, well, I couldn't allow Taylor to torture you with his cardigans." Luke smiled.
"Surprisingly, he hasn't even come near me yet. Actually, I think he thinks my outfit is a little, um, inappropriate."
"Well, I think you look great." Lorelai blushed a little.
"Oooh, cookies! Shaped like pumpkins! How cute!" she squealed, slipping her arm through his and leading him towards the refreshment table. Just then, something bright flashed in their faces.
"Kirk, cut it out!" Luke said with an annoyed look on his face.
"Ow! I'm seeing spots!" Lorelai said, starting to blink a lot.
"I'm sorry, I'm supposed to get pictures of tonight. I'm just doing my job." Kirk told them, dropping the plastic spear he was carrying around. Luke picked it up and threw it some feet away. The couple resumed their walk over to the table, when they were stopped by...

They were stopped by Taylor

"Well, well, well, look who decided to show up"

"What do you want Taylor"

"Oh you know, to gloat a little"

"Okay, gloating over, bye"

"Who on earth are you suppose to be, you're in a suit."

"I'm James Bond, you know, suit wearing spy guy."

"Oh, yes yes, I see that now"

"Well, that make my day to know that"

"Lorelai, could you be dressed anymore scandalously?"

"Well, I was going to bring a whip and chain but thought that would be too much" she says. "Oh, listen, music, let's dance"

Lorelai pulls Luke onto the dance floor.

"I just remembered the dream I had last night in anticipation of this party." Lorelai said suddenly.

"And I assume you're going to tell me?"

"Yeah. Well, we were at the party. I was dressed as Xena, you were Ares, Jess was Autolycus, Rory was dressed as Eve, you know, Xena's daughter and Kirk was dressed as Joxer. Oh and Paris, you know Rory's sorta friend from Chilton was dressed like Gabrielle and then the other blonde Louise I think was Aphrodite."

"Oh God!" He shook his head.

"Yeah. I even went out looking for a Xena costume today, couldn't find it. You looked good in that Ares costume." She winked at him.

"Well, yeah, I bet you looked good in the Xena costume too."

"Oh yeah. I looked hot!" Lorelai said, laughing. They continued to dance through the next four songs before taking a break to sit down on some chairs.
"So this is fun. Come on, admit it!" Lorelai said, drinking a Coke.
"It's not bad," Luke replied.
"Hah! I got you to admit you're having fun! My goal in life is complete!" she exclaimed triumphantly.
"I said it wasn't bad. I didn't say it was fun."
"But it is fun, isn't it?"
Luke sighed. "Yeah, this is fun."
"I knew it." Lorelai grinned.
"Why are you so proud of yourself?"
"Because! This is a great day in history! Luke Danes admitted he was having fun, and I was part of that!"
"I never said you were part of it."
"Well, I'm here, you've been hanging out with me all night, so I'm assuming that I have some part in this 'fun' concept." They smiled at each other. "Let's dance some more," Lorelai said.

"So Luke, why did you choose to be James Bond?"

"oh, well, he got to go all over the world, and got all those little contraptions to work with and well, I didn't want to actually go out and buy a costume"

"Oh, and here I thought you were him because he always got the girl.

"Well, that was a perk"

"In fact, he got every girl. I always considered James Bond to be the equivalent of like a male slut. Ha, Luke you are a male slut"

"Okay, I think I'm going to sit down now"

"I knew it. All these years I figured you as a quiet, unassuming player, and I was right, wasn't I"

"Oh, yeah. That's me, got a bunch of girls in the diner waiting for me as we speak."

"Yeah, I figured"

"You're a nut job, you know that"

"So I've been told"

A moment of silence

"You really do look great as Catwoman"

"Thanks, and you, Bond, look great too"

They smile again at each other and continue to dance.

"So," Lorelai whisphered, "just so you know, I' am really glad you came. I don't think I would have enjoyed myself without you here as much"

"Thanks. And there's no way I ever would have came without your persistence"

"It's one of my best qualities, I've been told"

"Yeah, it is" he said softly

This made Lorelai blush

"Luke can I ask you a personal question?"

"Um, I guess so"

"This maynot be my place to ask but is there anyone special in your life now? I mean, you never really talk about your ummm, love life and all, but I was just wondering"

"Why were you wondering that for?"

"Just curious, you know, if you don't want to talk about it, I understand"

Luke looked slightly upset over this question

"Yeah I rather not talk about this"

"Oh, well, okay, I mean..."

"Honestly I don't understand why you would ask me this now"

"Luke, I didn't mean to upset you"

"it's private, that's all"

"I know, I'm sorry, I didn't realize you were so sensitive about it"

"I'm not sensitive about it"

"Um, Luke, I think you are"

"Well I'm not"

"Look, I didn't mean to upset you but..."

"You know what, I think I'm going to go"

Luke turns and leaves the studio. He walks outside and Lorelai races out and catches up with him

"Luke wait" she calls out...

"Lorelai, I'm tired I'm just going home, alright"

"Luke, really, i'm sorry, I just, I ummm..."

"What exactly are you sorry about"

"I upset you"

"I'm not upset"

"God Luke, why are you doing this. You are obviously upset over my questions, yet you keep saying you're not, what is going on with you"

"After all these years it's not obvious to you Lorelai?"

"Obvious? What are you talking about"

"How long have we known each other? You'd think that at some point you would realize it, but you never did."

"Luke, really not understanding"

"Yeah, I get that now. Maybe it's just time for me to move on."

"Move on? What are you..."

She stops mid sentence realizing what he's talking about.

"Oh, god, Luke, I..."

"You don't need to say anything, forget that i even said anything"

He turns and starts to walk and is halfway to the diner. He turns and sees Lorelai stand in the same spot looking upset and confused. She looks up at him, and their eyes met. She quickly looks back down. A tear falls from her eye. Luke starts to turn back for the diner, then turns back around and walks to her.

Lorelai sees him

"Luke, I..."

She doesn't finish her sentence, he puts his hands softly on cheeks and kisses her.

He pulls back

"Lorelai, I'm sorry, I shouldn't have..."

She pulls him toward her and kisses him again

they gently pull away and Lorelai looks at him

"Sorry it took so long for me to come around"

"You were worth the wait"

They smile and kiss again
